Explained by Common Craft. Together, this system makes up the World Wide Web. So, let’s sum it up. To visit a website, we type in a web address or click a link. The information for the website lives on a server. Itcomes to us as little packets of code, and our web browser translates this code into words, photos, music, videos.

Windows 10: need too disable world wide web publishing service, but it's not in the services list
I navigate to services with services.msc and also through control panel > administrative tools > services.
I don't see world wide web publishing services. I need to turn it off because the port conflicts with a program I use (DesktopServer by Serverpress - this program allows me to create wordpress sites on my laptop).

The World Wide Web ('WWW' or 'The Web') is the part of the Internet that contains websites and webpages. It was invented in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. Sir Tim Berners-Lee created a new markup language called HTML. Websites are composed of pages linked by hypertext links. They are written in HTML.
The software to see the World Wide Web is called a web browser. One also needs a connection to the Internet.
Many companies nowadays offer limited website hosting allowing one to make websites that can be displayed on the World Wide Web like any other domain (www.stuff.com) site. These sites usually make money from advertisements instead of fees.
